Artificial Intelligence (AI) presents both a major opportunity and a major threat for management consulting. This online event, organised jointly by the British Academy of Management (BAM) Management Consulting Network and CMCE, explored the opportunities and threats by showcasing cutting-edge research into the application of AI in management consulting and its implications for the profession.
The event comprised three online sessions, each featuring a presentation followed by a question-and-answer session:
10.00 – 11.30: ‘AI in Professional Service Firms: a research study’, Professor Joe O’Mahoney. Joe presented the findings of his recent research into how professional service firms can best exploit AI. The session also included a breakout period for discussion in small groups followed by a whole-audience discussion. Joe is known for his ground-breaking research that is also of real practical value to consulting firms.

14.00 – 15.00: ‘Enhancing Consulting Outcomes: Business Sparks' AI-Powered Approach to Generating Innovative SME Strategies’, Dr Konstantinos Zachos. Kos will demonstrate Business Sparks, an AI tool being developed at the National Centre for Creativity enabled by AI (CebAI) at Bayes Business School. Business Sparks combines human-curated expertise and business information with AI. It guides users to explore ideas, develop different approaches, and discover larger numbers of more innovative business insights sparks.

17.00 – 18.30: ‘Building the higher order management consultancy skills needed to excel in the AI era’, Professor David V L Smith and Adam Riley MBA. David and Adam specialise in generating market insights and developing consulting skills. They will discuss the critical skills that will be needed by management consultants to flourish in an environment where AI is well established.
