Fundamental Questions for Consulting Excellence

This report identifies the fundamental issues in management consulting from a practitioner’s perspective and uses them to frame a research agenda in management consultancy.  These issues cover:

• The scope of management consultancy;
• Ethics and professional standards;
• Consultant Value;
• Delivering services;
• Managing client relationships.

CMCE has used this framework to develop its own programme of research and seminars, and the report provides an update on progress.

These questions were first posed in 2021 by a panel which advised CMCE on its strategy and were dubbed the “Hilbert Questions” by Michael Mainelli, management consultant and Lord Mayor of London. We are delighted that Michael has provided a foreword to the report.
