AI Governance

This report describes how organisations can develop and enhance their governance and control frameworks to minimise the risks and capitalise on the opportunities of AI.

It is written for Board members and consultants who advise them, and advocates a technology-agnostic, principles-based and outcomes-
focused approach:

• Technology-agnostic – AI is a ‘thing’, like the Web or cloud-based computing. It can either be an opportunity or a risk, depending on its application.
• Principles-based – organisations should respond to AI by staying true to their strategy and mission, and operating within the guardrails of their Risk Appetite.
• Outcomes-focused – the key to success will be in understanding what the organisation wants to happen, and what the organisation wants to prevent from happening.
